Check-in, check-out and how deposits work
Check the customer in and optionally take a deposit; at check-out record extra time and refund or deduct the deposit.

Check-in
A confirmed reservation shows a Check in button. It records that the rental has actually started and moves the record to In progress.
You can take a deposit at the same time: the amount and the method it was taken with.
A DEPOSIT IS NOT RECORDED AS CASH. It is a temporary security, not a payment — only the part deducted at check-out becomes revenue.
Check-out
An in-progress record shows Check out. Three things happen there:
Extra time — minutes the customer stayed over; the end time and duration extend accordingly.
Extra time charge — the amount is added to the reservation total.
Deposit — refund it in full or deduct part of it.
Once check-out completes the record becomes Completed and counts towards revenue.
Deducting a deposit
For damage or a rule breach choose Deduct part of it and write the amount and reason. The deducted amount becomes a real payment and is recorded as cash — it is a damage charge, not a security any more.
Taking a deposit is optional, and it is separate from the deposit expectation in Rental rules.
Check-in and check-out live in the WEB PANEL; the mobile app can mark a reservation completed but not close a deposit.
